International Conference for Emergency Medicine 2012: Dublin
The Irish Association for Emergency Medicine was extremely proud to have been chosen by the International Federation for Emergency Medicine to host the 14th ICEM last June.
The Main Conference took place from Wednesday 27th June 2012 until Saturday 30th June 2012 inclusive. There were pre-conference workshops and other educational events in the days immediately before the Conference.
Venue
The newly completed Convention Centre, Dublin (CCD) was the state of the art venue for the Conference. This will also be the venue for the International 2016 SMACC conference in Dublin.
Official Opening
The 14th ICEM was officially opened by the President of Ireland, Mr. Michael D Higgins on Wednesday 27th June 2012. The President’s Address is accessible to all. The transcript of the President’s formal speeches is available here.
Social Programme
The Social Programme featured a Welcome Reception in the Guinness Storehouse on Tuesday 26th June 2012 and a Gala Conference Banquet on Friday 29th June 2012 at the Convention Centre’s Liffey Suite
There was also an accompanying persons’ programme to allow delegates visit the sites of Dublin and beyond.
Free Open Access Medical Education (FOAM)
ICEM 2012 also saw the term FOAM (Free Open Access Medical education) used for very the first time. FOAM is a community of people, a collection of learning and an ethos of learning. FOAM is the concept, the twitter hashtag is #FOAMed. For more on FOAM, visit IAEM’s Online Educational Resources.
Promotional Video
IAEM produced an ICEM 2012 Promotional Video to advertise the Conference and the host city of Dublin. This was aired for the first time at the 13th ICEM in Singapore in June 2010. The Association had a promotional stand at the meeting to advertise the Dublin meeting and below are some of the IAEM crew who manned the stand.
IAEM also had promotional stands at the MEMC conference in Kos and the CEM Annual Conference in Gateshead both in September 2011 and at the CEM CPD Meeting in London in March 2012.
