The IEMTA Summer Meeting took place on 13th May 2011 at RCSI. The meeting involved a series of presentations from trainees and then a series of three debates on ‘hot topics’ in Emergency Medicine. A selection of photographs from the night are reproduced below:

On 7th September a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between IAEM and DRIP. Photos from the signing ceremony are reproduced below. DRIP (Disaster Relief by Irish & Pakistanis)is a registered charity, set up in the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake in Pakistan on 8th October 2005, which seeks to improve medical care provided to victims of disasters. It has already made significant strides in improving pre-hospital care in Pakistan and through a partnership with IAEM, the intention would be to develop and improve Emergency Medicine in Pakistan which is currently in its infancy. The training body for EM in Ireland, the Irish Committee for Emergency Medicine Training (ICEMT), has a close relationship with IAEM and will be the vehicle fot this development.

The Association held the inaugural Leo Vella Lecture at the Limerick meeting. Named after the first Consultant in the specialty in the Republic of Ireland, the first iteration of this annual event was given by Mr Vella himself.

In addition to the Leo Pharma awards, IAEM also had some additional awards made at the Limerick Annual Scientific Meeting. The trainees section of the Association (IEMTA) made a presentation for the best poster presented by a Medical Student and an award for the best trainer. The presentations were made at the close of the ASM in Limerick on Friday 21st October 2011
