New clinical guidelines on the Emergency Management of Injuries

New clinical guidelines on the Emergency Management of Injuries including needlestick and sharps injuries, sexual exposure and human bites have been developed and are available on the HSE Health Protection and Surveillance Centre website. The Association actively contributed to the production of the guidelines and has also formally endorsed them for use in Ireland’s Emergency Departments.

The guidelines were officially launched at the National PEP Conference in the Rotunda Hospital on Friday 19th April 2013.

These guidelines are intended for use in emergency medical settings where a patient first presents with an injury where there is a risk of transmission of infection, in particular blood borne viruses (BBV).
