Two University of Galway students have won the prestigious essay prize from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine for 2024.
James Phelan and Thomas Quinn, under the supervision of Dr. James Foley, Consultant in Emergency Medicine, University Hospital Galway were selected as the winners of the RCEM Undergraduate Research Essay Prize for their work on “The use and benefit of point of care Lactate measurement for ambulatory patients attending the Emergency Department”. They were awarded £500 and have been invited to present their work at the RCEM Annual Scientific Meeting in October. The study will shortly undergo peer review and hopefully will be accepted for publication in the coming months.
