Dr Jim Gray on ED crowding

Dr James Gray, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Tallaght Hospital discusses the implications of the directive by the HSE on ED Crowding requiring specified actions to be taken when certain thresholds are met. Dr Gray expresses the concerns that the time targets have been deliberately left ambiguous and that unless the clock is regarding as starting from when the patient arrives in the ED, there may be gaming of the times and paradoxically this may make the situation worse for patients
