Welcome to the #BeKerriKind Kindness Initiative page, supported by IAEM.

December has been declared Kindness Month in all Emergency Departments across the country.

How did it all begin?

#BeKerriKind began in 2019 after a beautiful girl Kerri (10) gained her angel wings after a long battle with leukaemia. Her classmates were quick to tell her parents about how kind Kerri was. One friend told her Mum that “there is kind, very kind and Kerri kind”. This was such a compliment to their little girl that #BeKerriKind was started in Kerri’s school.

In December 2020, a kindness initiative was started in Sligo Emergency Department to bring some light and joy after a long year for all staff working in the difficult conditions during the Covid-19 pandemic. #BeKerriKind was adopted as the motto behind the initiative.

Emergency Departments are busy, stressful and at times heart-breaking. This national kindness initiative is about encouraging us to mind and show appreciation for each other and boost staff morale.

How does it work?

Each Emergency Department will receive a Kindness pack which will include resources and ideas to help you facilitate your own Kindness Month. A key feature is the blank “Kindness Month” calendar. Participants insert their name in any blank day of the calendar to indicate that they will carry out an act of kindness for their colleagues that day.

When does it launch?

Where better to launch a #bekerrikind Kindness initiative than at the IAEM conference in Kerry! ‘What matters most’ is to be kind!
