• Appointment of the first tranche of 30 Consultants in Accident & Emergency Medicine in the United Kingdom.

1974

• Appointment of Mr Leo Vella as Consultant in Accident & Emergency Medicine to the Charitable Infirmary, Jervis St, Dublin becoming the first Consultant in Accident & Emergency Medicine in the Republic of Ireland.

1975

• Creation of the Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) in Accident & Emergency Medicine under joint auspices of RCP and RCS in London to oversee Higher Specialist training in the specialty in the UK.

1976-1978

• Appointment of initial batch of Senior Registrars in Accident & Emergency Medicine in the United Kingdom.

1978

• Foundation of  Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP).
