This afternoon pre-conference workshop will teach the fundamentals of open water safety and rescue in an exciting and hands on approach.
Peter Conroy, the course instructor, is the leading expert in open water rescue in Ireland. He is a paramedic with DFB, a qualified wilderness medicine instructor and the founder of the Irish Tow Surf Rescue Association. He has a wealth of experience in providing medical cover to surfers in some of the most dangerous conditions in the world, and he is featured on the ITV series ‘Rescue: river deep, mountain high’.
This half day course will be held on Strandhill beach, where Peter will cover open water safety basics, the prehospital management of a drowning and hypothermia, cold water submersion, and all the rescue procedures for a person in trouble in the water, including the use of rescue boards, throw lines and reaching equipment. Participants will then get the chance to practice these skills in the water. Finally, to wrap the day up, the participants will get a surf lesson from qualified surf instructors! Wetsuits and board rental are included in the price.

HeartCode ACLS is an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Providers Course most suitable for the healthcare professional that has successfully completed the traditional ACLS training in the recent past (< 5 yrs preferably) or has regular exposure to Cardiac Arrest situations.
